actual count, honey was the most-used medicament
in ancient Egypt. Of the over 900 different remedies
recorded, more than 500 were honey-based.
Hippocrates...the Father of Medicine wrote, "Honey
drink cures phlegm and calms down cough"...prescribed
'oxymel' (vinegar and honey) for pain 'hydromel' (water
and honey) for thirst and light fevers.
The preservative properties of honey are astounding.
A royal Egyptian infant, well preserved in a container
filled with honey, was discovered in one of the pyramids
at Gizeh. In the first century A.D., the bodies of
honored Jews were embalmed by placing them in honey
for long periods.
Old Russian manuscript says, "Honey takes away
the stench from wounds." Honey went to the wars
right along with the warriors...wounds suffered in
battle by everyone from the Crusader knights...to
combatants of World War I were treated on the battlefield
with wound dressings of honey.
